Frequently Asked Questions - Analytics Information

Questions and information about tracking traffic and conversion.

Reviewing Yahoo! Web Analytics data takes just a few steps after you've set up Yahoo! Web Analytics campaigns. If you haven't set up Yahoo! Web Analytics campaigns for your feeds, you must complete the steps in our FAQ at http://dashboard.feedwizards.com/articles/yahoowebanalytics/tracking first.

Once you've got the campaigns being tracked and are seeing data come through, you must now follow the procedures below to create and save the reports (so you can quickly view again).

* After Yahoo! Web Analytics has gathered some data (24 hours or less), set up a saved report in Yahoo! Web Analytics

1. Login to your store manager and click on "Analytics Reports".

2. Go To Reports - Marketing - Campaigns - Campaign Summary and click the + next to Paid Search. You may have to expand multiple levels of the + sign (not sure why Yahoo! does this) to get where you see the campaign listings.

3. Look for your campaign. If there is no data (no listing) then it may take a bit longer to get data or you can try using the calendar in the top left to check a different range. If you haven't seen any data in 48 hours you may want to check the setup or contact Your Store Wizards so we can help make sure it's all working properly.

4. Mouse over the magnifying glass on the left of the campaign name and click on "show search listings".

5. This now lists each item (by product id) on the left. The Unique CCL are the unique clicks (only first click counts). You can see the data explanations at http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/ywa/faqs/campaigns/campaignreports/camp... .

To save the report for easier access next time:

1. Click on bookmark report.

2. Name the report.

3. In the Folder field enter "Feed Wizards Analytics Reports" (without the quotes) or another name that makes sense to you.

4. Click Create Bookmark (read and edit rights you can change if you want, all the rest should remain as defaults).

5. This report is now saved and if you ever want to see it you can look under the Bookmarks section in Reports

Tracking your feed and activity through Google Analytics is a very quick and simple process. It boils down to editing your feed settings and adding a tracking suffix, and then pushing a new feed. Here's the step by step information:

1. Login to your Feed Wizards Dashboard account, and click on My Stores.

2. Click on your store name.

3. Click on the Edit Settings button next to the feed you want to track.

4. Click the Edit button on the Service Tracking Information.

5. In the Tracking URL Suffix you would load something like "[email protected]@[email protected]@&utm_medium=shopping%2Bengine&utm_campaign=MYFEEDNAME" (without the quotes)

6. In our example, change the MYFEEDNAME to an abbreviation you will recognize for the feed. Leave the @@[email protected]@ as is.

7. Click on Save Changes.

8. Your feed will now include the tracking on it's next push. If you want it to start sooner you can click on the Resend Feed Now at the bottom of the edit page.

Basically our system will replace the @@[email protected]@ with the id of your product so in Google you will be able to see the campaign by name you've defined and even break down traffic and sales by the item id that the user clicked on.

Importing Yahoo! Web Analytics data into the Feed Wizard Dashboard takes just a few steps after you've set up Yahoo! Web Analytics campaigns. If you haven't set up Yahoo! Web Analytics campaigns for your feeds, you must complete the steps in our FAQ at https://dashboard.feedwizards.com/yahoo-webanalytics/tracking first.

Once you've got the campaigns being tracked and are seeing data come through, you must now follow the 2 procedures below (saving a report, having it sent to our system).

After Yahoo! Web Analytics has gathered some data (24 hours or less), set up a saved report in Yahoo! Web Analytics.

There is a specific naming convention needed so we can attach the data and engine in our backend. To find the report title needed log in to the Feed Wizard site:

1. Click on your store.

2. Click on settings next to the feed your going to be loading and copy the data from the "Yahoo! Web Analytics Report Title:" field.

3. Login to your store manager and click on "Analytics Reports".

4. Go To Reports - Marketing - Campaigns - Campaign Summary and click the + next to Paid Search.

5. Look for your campaign. If there is no data (no listing) then it may take a bit longer to get data or you can try using the calendar in the top left to check a different range. If you haven't seen any data in 48 hours you may want to check the setup or contact Your Store Wizards so we can help make sure it's all working properly.

6. Mouse over the magnifying glass on the left of the campaign name and click on "show search listings".

7. Click on bookmark report.

8. Now you must name the report. Paste or type in the report name from step 1. In the Folder field enter "Feed Wizards Analytics Reports" (without the quotes).

9. Click Create Bookmark (read and edit rights you can change if you want, all the rest should remain as defaults).

10. This report is now saved and if you ever want to see it you can look under the Bookmarks section in Reports

** Schedule the saved report to be emailed directly into our system:

1. Login to your store manager and click on "Analytics Reports".

2. Go to SETTINGS in the top nav.

3. Click on "Customize and schedule reports for email delivery".

4. Click on ADD to add a new report.

5. Enter a name and description, for timing set the report to send "every day" after 9 AM (other times can be chosen but we've had sporadic issues if it's sent too early from Yahoo - not sure why yet). Reporting period should be "last full day".

6. Change the type to Comma-Separated values (CSV).

7. In the email put [email protected] and click the ADD button.

8. From the report type drop down select your custom report (should be near the very bottom under Scheduled Report Items), for number of rows pick 200000 and add the report.

9. If you have more than one report to set up (for more than one campaign), you can add each report in the one email entry.

10. Click update when back on the scheduled report setting screen.

Yahoo! will now automatically start emailing the reports to us starting the next day and soon after the data will start appearing in your Feed Wizards account.

Tracking data from each feed involves a 2-3 step setup process. Simply follow the directions outlined below for each of your services.

The three main steps are:
1. Add a campaign in Yahoo! Web Analytics.

2. Add a tracking url suffix on your feed.

3. Send a new feed to the service (or you can wait and our system will auto send on it's next cycle).

Here are the step by step directions. They're much simpler than they look.

Add a campaign to Yahoo! Web Analytics:

1. Go to your store manager and click on "Analytics Reports".

2. Click on SETTINGS in the top navigation.

3. Click on Manage Campaigns (under Campaigns & PPC Tracking).

4. Use the drop down box in the middle of the page to pick a campaign type (usually Paid Search) and Click Add New Campaign.

5. Enter a campaign name and pick a cost type based on how you pay for the program. If you need to enter a click cost, enter the normal click cost. If you pay multiple ranges you may want to enter the highest cost (this can also be overridden by adding individual bids on items in the feed).

6. For keyword identifier enter "kw" (without the quotes), and in the Campaign settings (bottom) change the drop down to "URL Parameter equals" and enter "cmp=XXXXX" (without the quotes) where XXXXX is an abbreviation you will use in the feed tracking URL.

7. Save the campaign. The other fields may be filled in if you desire but aren't needed for the importing.

Add a tracking URL for the campaign to the feed:

1. Log in to the Feed Wizard site (http://dashboard.feedwizards.com/).

2. Click on My Stores and click on the store name, then click Edit Settings on the feed you are going to track.

3. Click the Edit button to the right of the Service Tracking Information box.

4. In the Tracking URL Suffix field enter "[email protected]@[email protected]@&cmp=XXXXX" (without the quotes and changing the XXXXX to match the abbreviation used in step A6 above.

5. Click Save.

The key setup is now complete. If you want to get data a bit sooner, follow the instructions below:

Push a new feed:

1. Go back to the store page in the Feed Wizard Site and click on the View Status button next to the service/feed.

2. Click the link in the bottom left that says "Resend Feed now". If there is no link then either it's not a service we can push and it must be pulled, or it's already scheduled to go soon.

3. Assuming all steps are completed, now you must wait at least a couple of hours (or usually around 24) for the service to get and process the feed and then for clicks to start coming through and tracking.

A tracking URL is a complete domain including the "http://www.xxxxxx.com" which identifies a visitor to that particular page in your store. When you create a tracking link in your YAHOO store editor, it is usually a full "tracking URL". A tracking SUFFIX on the other hand is a string of code attached to the END of your page URL which also tracks visitors. Tracking SUFFIXES are usually preceeded by a question mark "?". If you need a tracking URL or tracking suffix for any feeds, let us know and we'll be happy to help.
